Popular but controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has surrendered himself to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, following a manhunt initiated by the Ogun State Police Command.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a message to journalists on Wednesday.
“Portable has just turned himself in at SCID Yaba. We have contacted the Ogun State Police Command to come pick him up,” Hundeyin stated.
The self-styled ‘Zazuu Zeh’ crooner had earlier been declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly leading a violent attack on government officials who were carrying out their lawful duties.
According to a statement issued by Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, a valid court order had been obtained for Portable’s arrest.
The incident in question took place on February 5, 2025, around 10 a.m., when officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office, were conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
During the operation, the officials encountered an elderly man, later identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar in the area. When they requested the approved building plan, he informed them that his son was unavailable.
Shortly afterward, Portable allegedly stormed the scene, armed with a firearm and other dangerous weapons, and led a gang of nine thugs in a violent attack on the officials.
The enforcement officers sustained serious injuries but managed to escape and reported the attack to the Ota Area Command, which later transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
The statement further revealed:
“Meanwhile, the nine accomplices have been arrested, but Portable fled the scene and has since gone into hiding. Multiple formal invitations were sent to him, requesting his presence at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, but he deliberately ignored them without cause or legal representation.”
After repeated evasion, the Ogun State Police Command secured a court order declaring him wanted.
The police have urged the public to provide any useful information that could lead to Portable’s immediate arrest.
Odutola also issued a stern warning:
“Anyone found aiding or harbouring the suspect will face legal consequences.”
With Portable now in police custody, all eyes are on the Ogun State Police Command as they take over the case, which could have serious legal implications for the controversial singer.
As investigations continue, the big question remains: Will Portable be granted bail, or is he facing a long legal battle ahead? His dramatic surrender signals the beginning of yet another controversial chapter in his already tumultuous career.
