Osun LG Crisis: Police Condemn Violence, Vow to Crush Perpetrators as IGP Deploys Tactical Squads

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly condemned the escalating violence in Osun State, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. In response to the crisis, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical squads to restore law and order in the state.

The police made this known in an official press release via their X handle, emphasizing that the violence, which has led to destruction of property and loss of innocent lives, is a direct threat to democracy and public safety.

Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, the IGP issued a stern warning to individuals and groups fueling unrest in the state. He assured that those responsible for the mayhem will be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism, or anarchy. Perpetrators of these criminal acts will be fished out and made to face the consequences of their ill-fated actions,” the statement read.

The police urged Osun residents, political actors, and stakeholders to shun violence and embrace peace, stating that the judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter in electoral disputes. Citizens were advised to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, as law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to restore normalcy.

“The Force remains resolute in clamping down on violent elements seeking to disrupt public order. Osun State will be closely monitored, and stringent measures will be enforced to safeguard lives and property,” the statement added.

The IGP’s swift intervention underscores the police’s unwavering dedication to maintaining stability and ensuring that democratic principles are upheld across the country.
