Outrage as Catholic Priest Brutally Flogs 50-Year-Old Widow Over Alleged Meeting for Salary Increment

Sahara Reporters has raised alarms over a shocking incident in Anambra, where a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Jude Muokwe of the Diocese of Awka, allegedly assaulted a 50-year-old widow and primary school teacher, Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen, leaving her severely injured. The assault, which took place at Angel Primary School in Ifitedunu, has sparked outrage and widespread calls for justice.

Reports suggest that the incident occurred after Mrs. Ikeorah, a devoted teacher from Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area, allegedly held a meeting with other staff members of the school. While the exact reason behind the assault remains unclear, some sources claim the priest lashed out at the widow for requesting a salary increase, while others suggest that the brutal act was a response to her demands for lesson fees.

In a harrowing video that has gone viral, Mrs. Ikeorah is seen in tears, showing the multiple injuries inflicted on her by the priest. As she sobs uncontrollably, the widow recounts the chilling ordeal: “He dragged me out and used a cane to flog me all over my body. He beat me and slapped me.” She vehemently denies the allegation that she held any meeting, explaining, “He said I was holding a meeting with the teachers, but that’s not true.”

The distressing footage captures her injuries, with bruises visible on her face, back, and legs as she displays the aftermath of the vicious beating.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Fr. Muokwe has refused to address the matter directly. When contacted by journalists for a statement, the priest responded with a consistent refusal to comment, stating, “I cannot speak to you. I can’t speak, especially to someone I do not know, about this matter.”

The incident has sparked intense public outcry, with many demanding an immediate investigation into the priest’s actions and justice for Mrs. Ikeorah. The Catholic Church and the Diocese of Awka have yet to issue an official response, leaving many wondering whether the Church will hold the priest accountable for his alleged misconduct.

This brutal assault has brought to light the need for stricter accountability and oversight in institutions of faith, especially in how they treat staff and community members. Calls for justice are growing louder, as many believe the priest’s actions are an unforgivable violation of trust and human dignity.
