The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong warning to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, over an alleged plot to allocate ancestral lands in the Eha-Amufu community of Isi Uzo Local Government Area to Fulani settlers.
According to a statement released on Saturday by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group accused Governor Mbah of offering a staggering ₦30 billion to certain community leaders in a bid to secure the land for Fulani settlement. IPOB further alleged that after the community rejected the offer, the governor, in collaboration with security forces, orchestrated a wave of Fulani invasions into Eha-Amufu.
The pro-Biafra group claimed that the Nigerian military and security agencies have turned a blind eye to the ongoing crisis, allowing Fulani militants to terrorize the locals unchecked.
“Presently, some of the communities in Eha-Amufu are under constant Fulani attacks, which include countless cases of women being gang-raped, farmers being slaughtered, illegal harvesting of farm produce, and the forceful occupation of abandoned homes,” Powerful stated.
He accused Governor Mbah of being in collusion with the Fulani elite, alleging that the state’s silence over the plight of Eha-Amufu residents suggests complicity.
IPOB vowed to resist any attempt to hand over Igbo ancestral lands to non-indigenous settlers, warning that such moves threaten the security and identity of the South-East.
“We will not allow any selfish politician to mortgage the future of Igbo generations just to remain in power for eight years or more,” Powerful declared.
The group reaffirmed that its Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives would continue to defend the region, stating, “We have maintained that we do not want Fulani settlements anywhere in the South-East.”
This latest development adds to the already tense relationship between IPOB and government authorities in the region. If left unaddressed, the allegations and counterclaims could further inflame ethnic and security tensions in Enugu State and beyond.
Governor Peter Mbah has yet to officially respond to IPOB’s allegations. However, with public outcry growing, all eyes remain on the state government’s next move.
