Shehu Sani, Ex-Gov Yero, and Top Politicians Defect to APC in Kaduna’s Political Earthquake

In a seismic political shift, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, alongside ex-Governor Muktar Ramalan-Yero and other prominent figures, have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made on the official handle of Vanguard Newspaper, setting the stage for a high-stakes political realignment in Kaduna State.

Welcoming the defectors at a mega rally held at Murtala Square on Saturday, Governor Uba Sani assured them of full integration into the ruling party, emphasizing that there is no hierarchy in APC based on membership tenure.

> “Someone who joined APC today and one who has been a foundation member ten years ago will enjoy the same rights and privileges,” the governor declared before an electrified crowd of party loyalists.

The mass defection signals APC’s growing influence in Kaduna politics and the North at large. Governor Sani attributed the party’s popularity and acceptability to its leadership style at both state and federal levels, asserting that APC is not just a party but a movement shaping the future of Nigeria.

> “In the 2027 elections, from top to bottom, the electorate will vote for APC. At the top, our leader, President Bola Tinubu, will be re-elected. At the state level, APC will win the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections by God’s grace,” he assured.

Despite the political euphoria, Governor Sani reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, pledging that his administration would continue to execute developmental projects across the state without bias towards political affiliations, ethnic backgrounds, or religious beliefs.

> “Politics is different from governance. We will be fair to all, whether or not they voted for us, because that is the oath of office we swore to uphold,” he declared.

He also urged party members and the general public to hold leaders accountable and constructively point out their mistakes, reminding them that leadership is a trust that will be accounted for in the hereafter.

Among the 49 notable defectors are:

Sen. Shehu Sani – Former Kaduna Central Senator and fierce critic of the APC-led government.

Ex-Governor Muktar Ramalan-Yero – Former PDP governor of Kaduna State.

Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi – Former APC senator who had previously fallen out with the party.

Alhaji Sani Sha’aban – NNPP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate and former APC chieftain.

Sen. Danjuma Laah – Ex-PDP senator representing Kaduna South.

Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha – Former National Organizing Secretary of the PDP.

Amb. Sule Buba – Former Nigerian envoy to South Korea.

Their return to APC reshapes the political landscape in Kaduna, signaling an intensified battle ahead of the 2027 elections. With Governor Sani’s unwavering support and the defectors’ political experience, the APC in Kaduna is gearing up for what could be its most dominant run yet.
