“Upholding Integrity: EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Charges 169 New Cadets to Defend Nigeria’s Future”

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has charged newly commissioned Detective Assistant Cadets of Course 5 to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism as they embark on their journey to combat financial crimes in Nigeria.

Addressing the 169 cadets at their Passing Out Parade on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Nigeria Police Mobile Training College, Ende Hills, Nasarawa State, Olukoyede emphasized that their role is not just about law enforcement but about nation-building through ethical service.

In a statement signed by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, and sent to SaharaReporters, Olukoyede underscored that the cadets had undergone rigorous training, not just in crime detection but also in ethics, discipline, and leadership.

“You have been trained not just in law enforcement but also in ethics, discipline, and leadership. These principles will guide you as you embark on your journey as officers of the Commission,” he stated.

He urged the cadets to embody the EFCC’s core values—integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration—while ensuring that their work directly serves the interests of Nigerians.

“As new officers of the EFCC, you are integral to our mission to combat economic and financial crimes through prevention, enforcement, and coordination. Your role carries immense responsibility. Your families, the EFCC, and the people of Nigeria are counting on you to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity. There must be no room for compromise or tolerance for misconduct,” Olukoyede charged.

Fighting Corruption: A National Duty

The EFCC chairman reminded the cadets that every investigation, every arrest, and every asset recovery is not just a victory for the agency but a step toward national progress.

“The task ahead of you is a national challenge that serves the greater good of Nigeria. In performing your duties, you will face situations that may test your integrity and dedication,” he cautioned.

However, every case you investigate, every arrest you make, and every asset you recover contributes not only to the EFCC’s mission but also to Nigeria’s development and prosperity.”

He stressed that the fight against economic and financial crimes is critical for securing the nation’s future, strengthening its economy, and restoring public trust.

“The fight against corruption is not just about punishing offenders; it is about safeguarding Nigeria’s economic future. We must continue to tackle cybercrime, money laundering, and other technology-driven financial crimes that threaten our nation’s stability.”

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, reaffirmed his administration’s support for the EFCC and the federal government’s commitment to bolstering the anti-corruption fight.

“Leaders at all levels must support the EFCC in this crucial fight. Nasarawa State recognizes the EFCC’s importance, which is why we withdrew from legal disputes regarding its statutory powers,” Sule stated.

He highlighted the role of the EFCC in ensuring transparency, boosting investor confidence, and improving Nigeria’s ease of doing business.

“As the home of solid minerals, we need agencies like the EFCC to ensure transparency in our resources sector, protect investments, and foster economic growth,” he added.

The passing-out parade marks the beginning of a new era for these 169 cadets, who now carry the responsibility of safeguarding Nigeria’s financial systems. With corruption remaining one of the country’s greatest challenges, their mission is clear: to uphold justice, protect public resources, and restore faith in the system.

As they step into their roles, their integrity will be tested. But as Olukoyede reminded them, every lawful arrest, every successful prosecution, and every recovered asset brings Nigeria one step closer to a corruption-free future.
