TERROR ON THE HIGHWAY: SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS GUN DOWN HEALTH WORKER IN ONDO

Tragedy struck in Eleyowo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, as a 46-year-old health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, was shot dead by suspected kidnappers while returning home from work.

The brutal attack occurred around 8 p.m. when Oyabiyi, unaware of the lurking danger, drove into an ambush set by armed assailants. According to reports, the gunmen ordered him to stop, but as he attempted to flee, they fired at him at close range, leaving him fatally wounded on the highway.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers fled immediately, abandoning their victim in a pool of blood. Despite frantic efforts to save his life, Oyabiyi succumbed to excessive blood loss after being rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Confirming the tragic incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmi Odunlami, assured the public that a full-scale investigation had commenced to track down the perpetrators.

“We have launched an investigation to bring those responsible to justice,” Odunlami stated, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies were determined to apprehend the killers.

The gruesome murder has sparked outrage among residents and community leaders, who are calling on the government to bolster security in Eleyowo and surrounding areas. Many lamented the rising wave of insecurity, urging authorities to take immediate action to prevent further bloodshed.

As fear grips the community, the tragic loss of Akinola Oyabiyi serves as a grim reminder of the growing dangers faced by ordinary citizens, even in their daily routines.
