In a decisive crackdown on criminal activities, the Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four suspected kidnappers in a high-stakes operation in Suru Local Government Area. The daring rescue mission also led to the recovery of a ₦3 million ransom extorted from a kidnapped victim, 60-year-old Umaru Bawa.
The command’s spokesperson, Nafi’u Abubakar, disclosed in a statement that the kidnappers struck Gobiraje Village on Friday night, abducting Bawa and demanding ransom from his family. Upon receiving a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Suru swiftly mobilized a tactical team of officers and local vigilantes to hunt down the assailants.
Following a meticulously coordinated pursuit, security forces tracked the criminals to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis, where they engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The intense exchange resulted in the elimination of four kidnappers, the arrest of one suspect with fatal injuries, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds.
Commending the gallant officers, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, praised their swift response, resilience, and professionalism in neutralizing the threat. He reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating crime, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
