Osun State Government Distributes Condoms, Urges Safe Sex Ahead of Valentine’s Day

In a proactive move to promote sexual health and curb the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the Osun State Government has commenced the distribution of condoms across the state while advising residents to engage in safe sex practices, particularly during Valentine’s Day.

The announcement was made via the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Nigerian Stories, emphasizing the importance of protected intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancies and the transmission of diseases. The initiative aligns with global health campaigns advocating for responsible sexual behavior, especially during periods associated with heightened romantic activities.

A government spokesperson reiterated the administration’s commitment to public health, stating, “Valentine’s Day is a time of love and affection, but we must also prioritize responsibility. We encourage all residents to make informed choices and protect themselves.”

Health officials have been deployed to various locations, including public spaces, markets, and healthcare centers, to distribute condoms while providing sensitization on the risks of unprotected sex. The government also urged young people to embrace abstinence or ensure protection to safeguard their future.

While the move has received mixed reactions from residents, public health experts have commended the initiative, stressing that access to contraceptives plays a crucial role in reducing STI rates and unplanned pregnancies.

With Valentine’s Day tomorrow been 14th February, the Osun State Government’s intervention serves as a timely reminder that love should always be accompanied by responsibility.
