NLC Declares War on Telecom Tariff Hike, Orders Nationwide Boycott of MTN, Airtel, and Glo

In a bold move against rising telecom tariffs, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a directive urging workers and concerned citizens to boycott services provided by major telecommunications companies, including MTN, Airtel, and Glo.

Announcing the decision via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Nigerian Stories revealed that the mass boycott is set to commence at exactly 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2025. The action is in response to what the NLC describes as an “unjustifiable and exploitative increase” in call, data, and SMS tariffs, which have further burdened Nigerians already grappling with economic hardship.

The NLC’s directive is expected to send a strong message to telecom operators and the government, demanding an urgent reversal of the tariff hikes. The labor union has called on all Nigerians to stand in solidarity, warning that failure to address the issue could lead to further escalatory actions.

With telecommunications being the backbone of modern communication and business transactions, a mass boycott of these services could have far-reaching economic implications, potentially compelling the telecom giants to reconsider their pricing structures.

As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on the NLC, telecom providers, and regulatory authorities to see how this standoff will unfold. Will the telecom giants bow to public pressure, or will Nigerians brace for more drastic measures?
