Nigeria Police Force Denies SARS Revival, Urges Public to Disregard Misinformation

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has firmly debunked circulating rumors suggesting the return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) under a reformed framework.

In an official statement titled “Disclaimer: SARS Remains Dissolved,” issued in Abuja on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi reaffirmed that SARS, which was scrapped on October 11, 2020, following widespread protests, remains permanently disbanded.

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent claims about its reformation and new rules of engagement should be dismissed as false and misleading,” Adejobi stated.

He urged Nigerians to exercise caution and rely on credible sources for information, emphasizing that the Police Force maintains transparency through its official social media handles:

Adejobi further stressed the importance of public vigilance, urging citizens to verify any security-related claims before spreading misinformation.

“Your safety and awareness are paramount. Stay informed, remain vigilant, and trust only official channels for accurate updates,” he concluded.

This clarification comes amid growing concerns that the controversial unit, disbanded in response to the historic #EndSARS protests, might be making a comeback. The NPF’s decisive stance seeks to allay fears and reinforce its commitment to reforms that prioritize human rights and public safety.
