Africa has lost one of its greatest revolutionaries with the passing of former Namibian President, Comrade Dr. Sam Nujoma. A fearless freedom fighter, visionary leader, and unwavering pan-Africanist, Nujoma dedicated his life to liberating Namibia from the shackles of colonial occupation and oppression.
As the founding father and first President of an independent Namibia, Nujoma played a pivotal role in steering the nation towards sovereignty after years of bitter struggle against apartheid South Africa’s rule. His leadership of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) was instrumental in securing Namibia’s independence in 1990, cementing his legacy as a towering figure in Africa’s liberation movement.
Beyond his contributions to Namibia, Nujoma was a steadfast ally of Nigeria, frequently visiting the country and expressing profound gratitude for the support it provided during the independence struggle. His deep ties with Nigeria underscored the spirit of pan-African solidarity that defined his leadership.
With his passing, Africa has lost a beacon of resistance and resilience, a statesman whose contributions to the continent’s liberation will forever be remembered. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
