Former Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa Ari, has broken his silence following his recent dismissal, alleging that he was denied a fair hearing before being removed from office.
In a passionate plea for justice, Ari claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to consider his defense despite multiple attempts to present his side of the story. Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, the embattled former REC revealed that he had written several letters to INEC, all of which were rejected. He also accused the tribunal overseeing the election dispute between Aisha Binani and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of deliberately ignoring crucial evidence that could have vindicated him.

Displaying what he described as authentic election result sheets and copies of his correspondence with INEC, Ari insisted that due process was not followed in his dismissal. Citing the principle of natural justice, he argued that every accused person has a right to be heard.
“The dismissal is not my problem. The civil service operates under rules, procedures, and due process. Even in law, there is the golden rule of natural justice, which says that one must be heard. Even God does not punish without first sending messages, prophets, and scriptures,” he asserted.
Expressing his frustration, Ari questioned why his letters were disregarded and why the tribunal refused to admit his evidence. “Even as an ordinary judge, what do you say to that?” he asked.
Holding a copy of the Holy Quran, Ari swore that his actions were guided by his faith and conscience. He further alleged that some INEC officials were compromised, threatened, and even assaulted during the 2023 general elections.
“Wallahi, whatever I do, I do it within the bounds of the Quran. We must all remember the Last Day,” he declared solemnly.
Despite his dismissal and the controversies surrounding his conduct during the election, Ari maintained that he had no regrets. He doubled down on his claim that Aisha Binani was the rightful winner of the Adamawa governorship election.
“I can even announce it now—she won the election against Fintiri,” he declared, adding that he is currently consulting with family and friends to determine his next course of action.
As the controversy surrounding his dismissal deepens, all eyes are on INEC, the judiciary, and other key stakeholders to see whether Ari’s claims will lead to any further legal or political consequences.
