Betrayal in Uniform: Three Abia Police Officers Dismissed for Abduction and Extortion

The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed three officers for their involvement in a shocking case of conspiracy, abduction, and extortion. The disgraced officers—Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka—were found guilty of orchestrating a criminal scheme that targeted unsuspecting residents.

The announcement was made by the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, who confirmed that the officers were officially dismissed on February 7, 2025. Following their dismissal, they were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution alongside their civilian accomplices.

The rogue officers were apprehended on January 29, 2025, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi. At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol—weapons they allegedly used to intimidate and extort their victims.

According to the police investigation, the trio hired a minibus and carried out a series of abductions along the Port Harcourt Expressway, targeting innocent civilians. They reportedly threatened their victims, extorted money on the spot, and then demanded additional payments from their families for their release—a brazen act that has sent shockwaves across the state.

Following their arrest, an orderly room trial was conducted, and their involvement in the criminal activities was confirmed beyond doubt. Their actions were deemed grossly unprofessional, prejudicial to discipline, and a stain on the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Consequently, the Abia State Command’s Provost retrieved their official police accoutrements, permanently severing them from the force.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa strongly condemned the officers’ misconduct, reaffirming the command’s zero tolerance for corruption and criminality within its ranks. He assured the public that the Abia State Command remains steadfast in upholding discipline, professionalism, and the rule of law.

“Discipline and professionalism are the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. We will not condone the activities of bad eggs tarnishing the image of the force,” CP Isa stated.

This incident underscores the growing commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to weeding out corrupt elements, ensuring that those entrusted with public safety do not turn into predators themselves. With the prosecution of these dismissed officers underway, the people of Abia State await justice.
