In a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully neutralized Kachalla Na Faranshi, a feared and notorious bandit leader, alongside several of his fighters, during a high-intensity raid in the dense forests of Zurmi Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

According to intelligence sources who spoke exclusively to Zagazola Makama on Friday, Na Faranshi met his end in a fierce gun battle after his gang clashed with the well-prepared Nigerian forces.

Originally from Shirgi village in Maradi, Niger Republic, Na Faranshi started as a cattle trader alongside his father. However, he soon abandoned legitimate business for the underworld of arms smuggling and violent banditry. Over time, he built a formidable network, establishing his stronghold in the Dutsen Kura forest, southwest of Mashema, Zurmi LGA.

Na Faranshi was a key figure in the illicit arms trade, smuggling sophisticated weapons from Mali and Niger into Nigeria. His influence stretched beyond the borders, with strong ties to terrorist factions operating in Mali. Once an ally of the infamous Bello Turji, Na Faranshi eventually broke away to form his own ruthless criminal syndicate.

On March 23, 2024, he brazenly released a video flaunting heavy weaponry and a battalion of fighters, issuing direct threats to attack Zurmi town in Zamfara State. His gang was responsible for numerous acts of violence, including mass kidnappings, deadly raids, and large-scale arms trafficking.

Determined to dismantle his criminal empire, Nigerian troops launched a well-coordinated operation deep within Zurmi’s forest hideouts. A brutal exchange of gunfire ensued, but the superior firepower and tactical expertise of the troops overwhelmed the bandits. Na Faranshi and several of his fighters were eliminated on the spot.

This successful offensive is part of Nigeria’s intensified counterinsurgency operations aimed at crippling the bandit networks terrorizing the Northwest region. Security forces have vowed to sustain the momentum, ensuring that Zamfara and neighboring states regain lasting peace.

With Na Faranshi’s reign of terror brought to an end, the Nigerian military has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to restoring security and stability across the region.
