The Nigerian military community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of Major General Christopher Jemitola, a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. The highly decorated officer reportedly slumped while at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja on Thursday and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sources close to the family confirmed the tragic incident, which has left many in shock, given Jemitola’s distinguished service record and his continued active lifestyle post-retirement.
A towering figure in the Nigerian Army, Jemitola served as Obasanjo’s ADC from 2003 to 2007 while holding the rank of colonel. Over the years, he held several critical positions, including Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Signals, Nigeria’s Defence Adviser to Brazil, and Director of Army Public Relations. His expertise and leadership eventually earned him the role of Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) in the Nigerian Army before his retirement.
Born in Ososo, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Jemitola’s career was marked by excellence, discipline, and commitment to national service. His unexpected demise has drawn tributes from military colleagues, friends, and well-wishers, who describe him as a dedicated officer and a patriotic Nigerian.
As the nation mourns, questions linger about the circumstances of his passing, even as the military and his family prepare to give him a befitting farewell.
