TERROR IN RIVERS: POLICE HUNT KILLERS OF FATHER AND SON, SMASH SOLAR PANEL THEFT SYNDICATE

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome murder of a father and his son in Igwuruta-Ali, a community in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, identified as 59-year-old Timothy, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Adokiye Amiesimaka International Stadium, Omagwa, and his son, were brutally gunned down in their residence by suspected assassins.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the shocking incident in a statement released on Wednesday in Port Harcourt. She revealed that the heinous act was reported to the Igwuruta Police Division by the deceased’s daughter.

“She informed officers that four unknown gunmen ambushed her father and brother, shooting them multiple times in the head before fleeing the scene,” Iringe-Koko disclosed.

Upon receiving the report, police officers swiftly mobilized to the crime scene, where they recovered three expended AK-47 cartridges, signaling the level of firepower used in the execution.

“The victims were rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries and were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Iringe-Koko lamented.

In response to the tragedy, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered an immediate manhunt for the assailants, vowing that no stone will be left unturned in bringing them to justice.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, police operatives in Rivers State have dismantled a two-man syndicate notorious for stealing solar panel streetlights and manhole covers across the state.

The arrested suspects, Shaibu Yusuf, 30, and Ibrahim Abubakar, 28, were caught red-handed attempting to steal streetlights installed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) along Danjuma Drive, off Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout in Port Harcourt.

Recovered items from the suspects include solar light poles, solar light panels, bolts, nuts, and a knife—tools used in their criminal operations.

“The suspects have confessed to being part of a syndicate responsible for vandalizing and stealing streetlights and manhole covers in the state,” Iringe-Koko stated.

She further confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

The Rivers State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
