The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, notorious for wielding power with impunity, has once again come under fire for abusing his office—this time, by ridiculing the parents of 31-year-old Charles Uche Ihedioha, a social media user detained over comments about the abduction of Folasade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
Reliable sources told SaharaReporters that Adejobi went as far as ordering the detention of three police officers who ushered Charles’ parents into his office to plead for leniency. The officers were reportedly locked up for three days, a move widely condemned as a blatant misuse of authority.
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, SaharaReporters confirmed that Charles was arrested on Thursday, January 23, 2025, on the orders of Adejobi, following his social media remarks about the kidnapping of the retired AIG’s wife and an alleged budget scandal.
“Muyiwa Adejobi got him arrested and he’s detained at IRT for mocking the abduction of the retired policeman’s wife and the budget scandal,” a source revealed.
The young man was reportedly picked up around 3 p.m. on January 23, after making what police deemed an inappropriate comment on Twitter (X).
As concern grew over Charles’ detention, his distressed parents sought an audience with Adejobi, hoping to plead for their son’s release. Instead of considering their plea, the police spokesperson allegedly mocked them before turning on the very officers who facilitated their visit.
“The police PPRO ridiculed the parents of Charles when they were ushered into his office to beg him,” a top source disclosed.
“He even detained three police officers who brought them into his office—for three days.”
The controversy stems from the kidnapping of Mrs. Odumosu on January 16, 2025, when four masked gunmen attacked her and forcefully dragged her out of her Lexus SUV before speeding off into the night.
Following an intense gun battle in the swamps of Ikorodu, Lagos State, security operatives successfully rescued her and recovered the N10 million ransom paid to her captors.
Two of the kidnappers were gunned down, while others fled with injuries, abandoning their weapons. Two more suspects were later arrested.
Adejobi has gained notoriety for his authoritarian rhetoric, frequently issuing threats against Nigerians, particularly those critical of the government.
In December 2024, he declared that the police would begin cracking down on citizens who “rain curses” on government officials and other prominent figures on social media, classifying such acts as cyberbullying.
“Raining direct curses on someone online is cyberbullying, not expression of freedom or criticism. And cyberbullying, which is even different from defamation, is a criminal offence and punishable. Be guided,” he posted, sparking outrage.
His latest high-handed actions against Charles Ihedioha and the three detained officers further reinforce concerns about his abuse of power and disregard for due process within the Nigeria Police Force.
