Tems Clinches Second Grammy, Dedicates Historic Win to Mother on Eve of Her Birthday

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has once again etched her name in global music history, securing her second Grammy Award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. She clinched the coveted Best African Music Performance award for her chart-topping hit “Love Me Jeje”, triumphing in a fiercely competitive category dominated by Afrobeats giants.

Her victory is particularly significant as she outshone industry heavyweights, including Burna Boy, Asake, and Wizkid, who were nominated for their collaboration “MMS”, as well as Yemi Alade and Davido, who featured alongside Chris Brown on the track “Sensational”. The category, a nod to the explosive global impact of African music, saw Chris Brown as the only non-African nominee.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Tems dedicated the prestigious award to her mother, whose birthday coincided with the momentous occasion.

> “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team. Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum! And I want to thank my team—Muyiwa, Wale, my beautiful stylist, and my lovely girls… I love you guys. Thank you so much. To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”

Tems’ latest Grammy triumph cements her status as one of Africa’s most influential and celebrated global music icons. Her meteoric rise, fueled by her soulful voice, unique artistry, and global collaborations, continues to break barriers and redefine the international music scene.

With this historic win, the Nigerian songstress adds another golden feather to her cap, reinforcing her dominance in the evolving landscape of Afrobeats and global pop culture.
