A tanker explosion at a filling station in Dutse metropolis has sent shockwaves through the community, but authorities have confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.
The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the explosion that took place at the Shakkato filling station, located along Kiyawa Road on Thursday. Police spokesperson SP Shiisu Adam issued a statement on Friday, detailing the rapid response and measures taken to avert further disaster.
According to preliminary investigations, the fire erupted when the tanker was in the process of discharging petroleum products into an underground tank. The situation quickly escalated beyond the control of station operators, who immediately notified the authorities.
“The fire ignited suddenly and spread quickly, making it impossible for the station’s operators to contain the situation,” said SP Adam.
In response, a police team, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dutse, swiftly rushed to the scene to secure the area and control public movement, preventing potential injuries and panic.
Firefighters from Dutse International Airport and the Federal Fire Service in Dutse also sprang into action, battling the fierce flames with determination. Their prompt and coordinated efforts eventually brought the fire under control, preventing further destruction.
Miraculously, despite the intensity of the blaze, there were no reported casualties or injuries. The police spokesperson reassured the public, stating, “No loss of life or injury was recorded.”
Following the successful containment of the fire, normalcy has returned to the area, and residents are now going about their daily activities without incident.
