The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that meaningful development in their states will remain unattainable unless the federal government revisits its harsh macroeconomic policies.
Rising from its first monthly meeting of 2025, held at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State, the opposition governors lamented the severe economic strain on Nigerians and called for urgent policy reforms. In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, they emphasized the need for the federal government to address economic hardships and bolster national security.
Governors Condemn Economic Hardships
Reading the seven-point communique, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, stated:
> “The Forum reviewed the socio-economic, security, and infrastructure challenges confronting the nation and commended PDP Governors for implementing policies that mitigate the suffering of their people while laying a foundation for sustainable development.”
The governors expressed deep concern over the federal government’s economic policies, which they claim have worsened the hardship faced by Nigerians. They demanded an immediate revision or overhaul of these policies to ease the suffering of citizens, warning that their states’ progress remains tied to the federal government’s economic direction.
The forum also addressed internal party matters, particularly the ongoing dispute over the position of the National Secretary in the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC). They reaffirmed their support for the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the issue and urged the NWC to implement the ruling without delay.
Additionally, the governors advised the party leadership to reschedule the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025, ensuring all legal procedures are adhered to for a valid convocation.
While commending the military and security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity, the governors expressed concerns over the resurgence of violent non-state actors. They called for urgent reinforcement of the nation’s security framework to prevent further deterioration of law and order.
The forum extended gratitude to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for hosting the meeting and lauded his administration’s strides in infrastructure, environmental management, economic empowerment, and security.
In a message of hope to Nigerians, the PDP Governors urged citizens not to lose faith despite the current hardships. They reassured the public that the PDP remains committed to restoring Nigeria to the pre-2015 era of economic stability, security, and national unity.
