Jigawa Approves N4.8bn for Ramadan Feeding, Expands Centres as State Commits to Welfare and Healthcare Revitalisation

The Jigawa State Government has earmarked a whopping N4,836,546,000 for this year’s Ramadan Feeding Programme, a significant move aimed at supporting the less privileged during the holy month. The approval was announced by the State Commissioner of Information, Mr. Sagir Musa, while addressing journalists on Monday night at the Government House in Dutse, following the recent State Executive Council meeting.

In a bid to enhance food distribution, the government has increased the number of feeding centres from 609 last year to 630 across the state. Each centre will serve a full package of three different meals per person, including Kunu, Kosai, and Jollof rice, with provisions for 300 people per centre daily.

The programme, Musa revealed, will be jointly funded by the state government (55%) and local government councils (45%), ensuring that the burden is evenly shared to maximize reach and efficiency.

“This initiative is designed to alleviate hunger and cushion the economic hardships faced by many during Ramadan, particularly among the vulnerable population,” Musa emphasized.

Beyond Ramadan feeding, the Jigawa government is also making significant strides in healthcare development. The council has approved the revitalisation of 114 ward-level Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the state, a project valued at N9,778,830,388.

According to Musa, this initiative is part of the government’s commitment to Universal Health Care coverage, with funding secured under the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress for Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Programme of the World Bank.

“The rehabilitation of these health centres will strengthen primary healthcare services, ensuring improved medical access, particularly in rural communities,” he stated.

With these bold interventions in food security and healthcare, the Jigawa State Government continues to demonstrate its dedication to the well-being of its citizens. By expanding Ramadan feeding centres and upgrading health facilities, the administration is tackling hunger, poverty, and inadequate healthcare head-on.

As the holy month approaches, thousands of families across Jigawa will benefit from sustained meal support and improved medical services, reinforcing the government’s resolve to uplift its people in both faith and health.
