Sahara Reporters has taken to it’s official X handle and announced that, In a dramatic twist to an ongoing legal battle, Pastor Paul Enenche, the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has dropped cyberbullying and defamation charges against his younger brother, Alexander Enenche, and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri—but is doubling down on his pursuit of Abraham Daniel and Peter Enenche for alleged defamation.
Following a wave of public criticism, Pastor Enenche’s legal team formally applied to withdraw the charges against Omokri and Alexander Enenche. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna, granted the withdrawal without objection from the defense counsel, S.M. Oyeghe, Esq.
However, while Omokri and Alexander Enenche walked free, the case took a new turn when Pastor Enenche filed a First Information Report (FIR) on January 30, 2025, signaling his intent to press forward with legal action against Abraham Daniel, a former pastor of Dunamis Church, and Peter Enenche, who have pleaded not guilty.
The FIR accuses Abraham Daniel and Peter Enenche of criminal conspiracy, cyberstalking, and defamation of character, stemming from alleged social media posts targeting Pastor Enenche and other religious leaders. The document claims they spread false information via WhatsApp and Facebook to damage his reputation.
A portion of the FIR reads:
“A petition was written by a concerned Christian youth forum that you, Obonyito Enenche Peter, ‘M’ 40yrs of Plot 424 Michael AMS Nnachi Crescent Mabushi Abuja, Abraham Daniel M 44yrs of Jikwoyi Phase 2 Extension Karu Abuja, and others at large, in 2024, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, while in concert, defamed the image of the General Overseer of Dunamis International Gospel Centre and the overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God via social media (WhatsApp and Facebook). You thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 27(1) and punishable under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, 2015.”
The FIR was signed by Barrister F.G. Gabriel, Officer-in-Charge, Force CID Abuja.
At their arraignment, both defendants pleaded not guilty. Defense counsel S.M. Oyeghe, Esq., applied for bail orally, sparking a fierce legal argument. Initially, Chief Magistrate Iyanna was set to rule on the request but changed his stance after a heated confrontation broke out in court between the defense lawyers and an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who attempted to seize a phone from one of the attorneys.
Frustrated by the disruption, Magistrate Iyanna abruptly adjourned the case to February 7, 2025, insisting that a formal written bail application must be submitted, despite his earlier allowance of an oral request.
The legal storm began when the Nigeria Police Force secured a remand order from the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, to detain Reno Omokri, Abraham Daniel, Alexander Enenche, and Peter Enenche in prison custody.
On January 17, 2025, SaharaReporters revealed that the police, acting on a petition filed by Patrick O. Okolo, SAN, obtained an ex-parte motion to remand the accused individuals in custody while investigations continued. The application, filed by Francis Gabriel, Esq., on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, led to a ruling that ordered the suspects to be produced in court on January 30, 2025.
In granting the motion, Chief Magistrate Iyanna ruled:
“An Order of this Honourable Court for remand warrant of the Respondents (i) Mr. Daniel Abraham (ii) Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander (iii) Oboyinlo Enenche Peter and (iv) Mr. Reno Omokri in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service pending investigation, arraignment/prosecution.”
The case, which has drawn significant attention, was reportedly fueled by allegations of defamation, cyberbullying, and a coordinated online smear campaign against Pastor Enenche and other church leaders.
With Omokri and Alexander Enenche now off the hook, all eyes are on the upcoming court session on February 7, where the bail motion for Abraham Daniel and Peter Enenche will be heard.
Will Pastor Enenche succeed in his legal crusade against his former associates, or will public pressure once again influence the proceedings?
Stay tuned.
