Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has declared that Nigeria’s primary mission at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco is to reclaim their lost glory and secure their fourth continental title.
After a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON final, Chelle insists that the team is hungrier than ever to rewrite history. Speaking after the AFCON 2025 draw on Monday, where Nigeria was placed in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, the coach exuded confidence in his squad’s ability to go all the way.
“We Are Coming for the Trophy” – Chelle
In a passionate statement to CAF Media, Chelle made it clear that his team is laser-focused on one goal—winning AFCON 2025.
> “Yes, it’s going to be difficult because there are 24 very strong teams, each with talented players and top coaches. But I know I have a squad that is determined and out for revenge, and I share that same hunger.
We know what we are capable of, and our objective is clear—to lift the trophy in Morocco.”
Appointed Super Eagles head coach on January 7, Chelle brings a wealth of experience, having previously managed Mali at the 2023 AFCON, where he led them to the quarter-finals before falling to the eventual champions, Ivory Coast, in extra time.
The 2025 AFCON tournament, scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, will take place across six Moroccan cities, promising intense competition as the Super Eagles seek to add a fourth star to their AFCON legacy.
With a squad packed with world-class talent, Nigeria’s journey to redemption begins now. Can the Super Eagles finally reclaim their place at the top of African football? The battle for AFCON supremacy is on!
