A tragic incident unfolded in Lagos on Tuesday as a two-storey building under construction at Northern Vulture Estate, Chevron, collapsed, leaving one person dead and four others critically injured.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the fatality, identifying the deceased as an adult male. Meanwhile, four other adult males sustained severe injuries and were swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed that emergency responders were immediately deployed to the site to carry out rescue operations.
“Upon arrival of the Agency’s Response Team, it was discovered that the two-storey building under construction had collapsed. The immediate cause of the incident remains unknown, but investigations are ongoing.”
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu further stated that officials from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) confirmed the casualty, while efforts were intensified to evacuate the injured.
> “Unfortunately, one adult male was confirmed dead, and four others who sustained serious injuries were transported to the hospital for treatment. The agency, alongside other critical stakeholders, managed to rescue the victims, and heavy-duty equipment has been deployed for further operations,” he added.
Authorities have since launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse, raising fresh concerns over building safety standards and regulatory compliance in Lagos. Meanwhile, the search and rescue operation remains ongoing as officials ensure that no one is trapped under the debris.
This latest building collapse adds to the growing list of structural failures in Lagos, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of construction regulations to prevent future tragedies.
