A Max Air flight from Lagos was involved in a terrifying emergency landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport late Tuesday night after its nose landing gear tyre burst into flames upon touchdown.
The incident, which occurred at precisely 10:57 p.m., sent shockwaves through passengers as the aircraft skidded to a halt on the runway, engulfed in panic.
According to Daily Nigerian, one of the passengers aboard the flight described the harrowing ordeal:
“Immediately after touchdown, the tyre burst and caught fire. The aircraft then skidded to a halt on the runway,” the passenger, who requested anonymity, recounted.
Despite the frightening situation, no casualties were reported, and emergency response teams swiftly intervened to prevent further escalation.
The incident raises fresh concerns about aviation safety in Nigeria, especially with repeated mishaps involving domestic carriers. Aviation authorities are expected to launch an investigation to determine the cause of the failure and ensure such occurrences are prevented in the future.
