The swift and decisive action led to the rescue of Mrs. Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, and the recovery of a hefty ransom.
The drama unfolded on the night of January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:45 PM, when four masked gunmen abducted Mrs. Odumosu from her Lexus Jeep outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State. The brazen act sent shockwaves through the community, triggering an immediate response from the Ogun State Police Command’s anti-kidnapping unit.
Leveraging technical intelligence platforms provided by Force Headquarters, the operatives meticulously analyzed the kidnappers’ movements and identified a suspected hideout within the dense creeks of Ikorodu. The operation reached a climax on the morning of January 23, 2025, at approximately 6:45 AM, when police officers stormed the swampy terrain in an intelligence-led raid.
Upon arrival, the kidnappers opened fire in a desperate bid to escape, leading to a fierce gun battle. Two of the criminals were neutralized, while four others managed to flee, abandoning their weapons and ransom proceeds. Amidst the chaos, the operatives successfully rescued Mrs. Odumosu unharmed, a feat that underscores the precision and bravery of the officers involved.
Recovered from the scene were four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, various calibers of ammunition, and N10,000,000 in cash—the ransom previously demanded by the kidnappers.
