Breaking Chains of Crime: Nigerian Police Dismantle Syndicates, Rescue 302 Kidnap Victims, Recover Cache of Arms

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to public safety, releasing an impressive report on its recent strategic operations. In a major breakthrough, the Force dismantled several criminal syndicates, recovering 134 firearms, 1,012 rounds of ammunition, and rescuing 302 kidnapped victims. This milestone underscores the Force’s renewed dedication to protecting lives, property, and ensuring justice.

The NPF, through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, announced a series of remarkable achievements in combating crime nationwide. These include:

Arrests:

179 armed robbery suspects.

100 kidnapping suspects.

152 suspects involved in murder or homicide.

34 individuals arrested for unlawful possession of firearms.

77 rape suspects and 110 suspected cultists.

Recoveries:

73 firearms.

310 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

56 stolen vehicles.


Rescues:

22 victims freed from kidnappers’ dens across the country.



These successes were announced during a press briefing held on January 22, 2024, at the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters.

The press briefing highlighted key arrests, including the capture of Muhammed Kabir, 36, and his associates Donald Okpere and Haruna Ibrahim, who were involved in defrauding victims of millions of naira by impersonating military personnel. Their modus operandi involved issuing fake bank alerts to unsuspecting victims after purchasing gadgets and medical equipment.

Additionally, another notorious gang specializing in motorcycle theft across Lagos and Ogun States was apprehended. Members Sunday Okwo Ade, Monday Solomon, David Emmanuel, and Shakiru Badmus were arrested, leading to the recovery of 15 stolen motorcycles.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reiterated the Force’s dedication to its core mission of safeguarding lives and properties. The IGP emphasized the NPF’s proactive stance in creating a secure environment for citizens to live and thrive. He reassured the public that the Force remains resolute in tracking down criminal elements, dismantling their operations, and ensuring justice is served in accordance with Nigeria’s extant laws.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, commended the relentless efforts of officers nationwide, highlighting that these operations are a testament to the improved strategies adopted under the current police leadership. He called on Nigerians to remain vigilant, support the Police, and report suspicious activities to authorities.
