Defamation Saga: Nigerian Police Secure Remand Order, Hunt for Reno Omokri Over Allegations Against Pastor Paul Enenche

Sahara Reporters, via its official X handle, has revealed that the Nigeria Police Force has obtained a remand order against prominent social media influencer Reno Omokri and three others over alleged defamation of Pastor Paul Enenche, the General Overseer of Dunamis International Gospel Centre.

The Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, issued the order to remand Omokri, alongside a former Dunamis pastor, Abraham Daniel, and two individuals identified as Enenche Idoga Alexander and Oboyinlo Enenche Peter. This legal move follows an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on January 13, 2025.

Omokri, a former Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, is currently being sought by the police for remand, alongside the Enenche brothers. Pastor Abraham Daniel and two others are already in custody.

Presiding over the case, His Worship, Chief Emmanuel A. Iyanna, granted the ex-parte application filed by Police counsel Francis Gabriel, Esq., under Motion No: ME/07/2025. The motion, which names the Inspector General of Police as the applicant and Reno Omokri alongside the others as respondents, sought permission to detain the accused pending further investigation and prosecution.

The court’s order reads:
“Upon hearing the application and submissions of learned FRANCIS GABRIEL, ESQ, and upon careful consideration of the averments, the annexures, and issues raised, the application is hereby granted as prayed.

“It is hereby ordered as follows: An Order of this Honourable Court for remand warrant of the Respondents (i) MR. DANIEL ABRAHAM, (ii) MR. ENENCHE IDOGA ALEXANDER, (iii) OBOYINLO ENENCHE PETER, and (iv) MR. RENO OMOKRI in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service pending investigation, arraignment, or prosecution.”

The alleged defamation stems from accusations made by the respondents against Pastor Paul Enenche. Although specific details of the defamatory claims remain undisclosed, sources suggest the allegations have sparked outrage within the Dunamis community.

This latest development has added to Reno Omokri’s growing list of controversies as a vocal critic and activist on social media. Known for his sharp criticisms and advocacy, his involvement in this legal dispute could have far-reaching implications for his reputation.

The court has directed the Nigeria Police Force to produce all respondents on January 30, 2025, signaling that further legal proceedings may soon follow. Meanwhile, the police are intensifying efforts to locate Omokri, who remains at large.

Observers note that this case highlights the increasing scrutiny of high-profile figures accused of defamation, particularly in the religious space, where reputations are deeply intertwined with public trust.

As the drama unfolds, many Nigerians are watching closely, awaiting revelations from the court and further updates from the police.
