Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama has revealed a stunning victory in Nigeria’s fight against banditry. Taking to his official X handle, he announced that troops have successfully eliminated three notorious bandit leaders in Zamfara State, signaling a significant breakthrough in the battle to restore peace in the region.
Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, working in collaboration with Zamfara State’s Community Watch group, Askarawa, executed the decisive operation in the Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA). The targeted bandit leaders—Kachallah Mai Shadda, Kachalla Gurgu, and Kachalla Mai Dada—were ambushed and neutralized near Gangara village while attempting to flee on motorcycles.
Sources informed Zagazola Makama that this operation is part of an escalating offensive aimed at dismantling banditry networks across the Northwest. In just one week, over 60 bandits have been neutralized, while countless others have abandoned their enclaves under relentless military pressure.
Further successes were recorded when the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched precision strikes targeting the infamous bandit kingpin Bello Turji and his followers. The strikes, executed in remote areas of Maradun and Zurmi LGAs, caused massive disruptions to the group’s movements. Ground troops and vigilant local militias supported these strikes, inflicting heavy casualties and tightening the noose around the assailants.
Ground forces achieved yet another victory in Fakai, located in Shinkafi LGA, where several bandits met their end. Tragically, some vigilant Askarawa members sustained injuries during fierce firefights. The wounded have been transported to health facilities in Kaura Namoda, Zurmi, and Kaya for urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, intelligence reports indicate that Bello Turji’s faction is relocating from Shinkafi’s forests to the dense Surbudu Forest in Isa LGA of Sokoto State, raising alarms about possible regrouping efforts.
In a separate incident, Turji’s men were spotted along the Mayasa Road near Gidan Jaja, transporting hundreds of rustled livestock. In a calculated move to evade aerial surveillance, the bandits strategically positioned the animals at the front of their convoy while riding motorcycles in the middle, effectively shielding themselves from military drones.
This series of operations underscores the military’s commitment to ending the reign of terror inflicted by bandits in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi States. Despite ongoing challenges, the collaboration between the Nigerian Armed Forces and local vigilantes has proven to be a formidable force against criminal elements in the region.
