The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has issued a resolute directive to troops nationwide, urging them to intensify the fight against criminal elements and neutralize threats wherever they may hide. He made this passionate call during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Social and Award Evening for Soldiers, Ratings, and Airmen, held on Sunday in Abuja.
In his address, General Musa emphasized the need for a proactive and aggressive approach to security, declaring that 2025 must be a landmark year in the military’s campaign against insecurity.
> “We are not where we want to be, but we’re heading there. I can assure you that by working together, we shall overcome all acts of evil,” he stated confidently.
Commanders to Lead the Charge
The Defence Chief called on military commanders to spearhead the campaign against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality plaguing the nation. He urged them to adopt a no-holds-barred approach in tackling these challenges:
> “Our task is to look for the bad guys and take them down. We must step out of the temple, look for the criminals wherever they hide, and go after them.”
Musa’s fiery speech has reinvigorated confidence in the military’s resolve to address pressing security issues, including insurgency, kidnapping, and secessionist threats.
Reiterating the military’s indispensable role in safeguarding national peace and stability, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, urged troops to remain unwavering in their service to Nigeria.
> “We must go wherever duty calls—by land, sea, or air. Our commitment to combating terrorism, insurgency, secessionism, and other threats to national unity must remain steadfast,” Oluyede said.
He also underscored the importance of aligning military operations with government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians. Oluyede stressed that the military’s dedication and loyalty are critical in achieving national development goals.
The event, which celebrated the valor and dedication of soldiers, served as a rallying point for the armed forces to recommit themselves to their constitutional mandate. Both Musa and Oluyede emphasized the importance of cooperation, loyalty, and relentless pursuit of peace as the cornerstones of military success in 2025.
The Defence Chief’s speech has drawn widespread praise, with many Nigerians expressing hope that the renewed determination of the military will bring tangible results in the fight against insecurity. Security experts have also lauded the focus on proactive strategies, calling it a much-needed shift to ensure that criminal elements have no hiding place.
As the armed forces gear up for a more aggressive stance, the nation looks forward to a year marked by decisive victories over threats to peace and stability.
