Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairperson of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, has strongly condemned the recent incendiary remarks made by Mr. Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a powerful statement released on her official X handle, Senator Usman expressed grave concern over the comments, which she described as a direct attack on the life, reputation, and business interests of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s leading figure.
The remarks, made during Mr. Morka’s appearance on national television on January 5, 2025, were labeled by Senator Usman as an affront to democracy, decency, and responsible political engagement. “It is with great concern and a deep sense of responsibility that I condemn these statements,” she declared, emphasizing that such rhetoric undermines national unity and the very principles upon which Nigeria’s democracy is built.
Senator Usman praised Mr. Peter Obi, describing him as a man of “impeccable character” who has dedicated his life to the pursuit of good governance and national progress. She highlighted his unwavering commitment to competence, merit, and respect for the rule of law, asserting that the baseless allegations and veiled threats against him reflect the APC’s inability to engage constructively on pressing national issues.
“The APC’s resort to inflammatory rhetoric only showcases its lack of solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians,” she noted. “Such behavior not only endangers lives but also discourages productive political discourse.”
The Labour Party leader called on security agencies to take swift action by investigating Mr. Morka’s statements and ensuring accountability for any incitement of violence or threats. “Words have consequences,” she warned. “The Labour Party will hold the APC accountable for any harm that befalls Mr. Peter Obi or his associates.”
Senator Usman urged political leaders to rise above petty politicking and focus on addressing the country’s pressing challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, and economic instability. She reiterated the Labour Party’s unwavering commitment to the values of transparency, justice, and inclusion, affirming that threats and intimidation would not deter their mission.
“Mr. Peter Obi represents hope and progress for millions of Nigerians,” she stated. “We will continue to stand by him in his pursuit of a better Nigeria. The APC must immediately issue a public apology and retract its offensive statements. Anything less would amount to a tacit endorsement of such reckless and dangerous behavior.”
Senator Usman concluded her statement by reminding all political actors of their responsibility to promote peace, unity, and constructive dialogue. “As leaders, we owe it to Nigerians to rise above the politics of bitterness and division. The true measure of leadership lies in how we treat one another, even in the face of disagreement,” she said.
The Labour Party’s stern response underscores its determination to protect its leaders and uphold democratic values in the face of rising political tensions. As the nation looks to its leaders for guidance, Senator Usman’s remarks stand as a clarion call for civility and focus on the critical issues affecting Nigerians.
