“Kano Governor Advocates for Reduced Hajj Fare to Ease Pilgrims’ Burden in 2025”

In a heartfelt call to action, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to the Federal Government to consider a reduction in the cost of the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. The governor emphasized that lowering the fare would enable more intending pilgrims to fulfil this significant religious obligation, especially in light of the prevailing economic hardships affecting millions of Nigerians.

Governor Yusuf’s plea was conveyed in a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Sanusi Bature. According to the statement, the governor’s remarks were made during a symbolic event organized by the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board. The occasion marked the refund of compensation from Saudi Arabian authorities for pilgrims who endured inconveniences during the 2023 Hajj due to a power outage at their accommodations.

The governor lauded the Saudi Arabian authorities for their commitment to addressing the issues faced by pilgrims and ensuring fairness. However, he stressed that the financial demands of the pilgrimage remain a significant barrier for many devout Muslims in Nigeria.

“Reducing the cost of the Hajj fare will not only encourage more participation but also relieve citizens grappling with economic challenges,” Yusuf said. He called on relevant authorities, including the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), to prioritize making the pilgrimage more affordable while maintaining the high standards of service delivery.

The governor also commended the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board for its dedication to the welfare of pilgrims, particularly in facilitating the refund process and ensuring transparency in handling Hajj operations.

The 2023 Hajj experience underscored the importance of addressing logistical and financial challenges faced by pilgrims. Governor Yusuf’s advocacy reflects a broader sentiment among Nigerians who aspire to fulfil this pillar of Islam despite rising costs and economic constraints.

As the preparations for the 2025 Hajj begin, the Kano governor’s call is expected to resonate across the country, urging policymakers to ease the financial burden on citizens and make the holy journey more accessible to all.
