Sahara Reporters has announced on its official X handle the gruesome murder of Fisayo Oladipo, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, in Owo, Ondo State.
Oladipo, a former APC youth leader and an aspirant for the chairmanship of the Owo Local Government during the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s tenure, was gunned down in the early hours of Monday, January 6. The attack occurred in the Owo local government area, sending shockwaves through the community.
The 52-year-old politician was a well-known and respected figure in Owo, recognized for his influence and contributions to local governance. Although the details surrounding the attack remain murky, preliminary reports suggest the killing might be linked to cult-related violence.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with residents expressing fear and outrage over the rising insecurity in the area. Oladipo’s body has been transported to a morgue, while his brutal murder has left his family, friends, and political associates in grief.
In response to the tragedy, security agencies have intensified their presence in Owo to prevent further violence. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) confirmed their deployment to the area, with Ondo State Commandant saying, “We have dispatched our personnel to join other security agencies in restoring order and calming the situation. Our men are on the ground in full force. We are working closely with other agencies to investigate this heinous act.”
Residents of Owo have called on the state government and security operatives to take decisive action against the growing wave of violence, emphasizing the need for improved security measures to safeguard lives and property.
As investigations continue, the assassination of Fisayo Oladipo serves as a grim reminder of the escalating insecurity plaguing various parts of Nigeria, casting a shadow over the political and social stability of the region.
