NAF Unleashes Precision Airstrikes on ISWAP/Boko Haram Strongholds as Troops Repel Attack in Damboa

In a significant escalation of counterinsurgency efforts, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has executed precision airstrikes against insurgent strongholds in Borno State, intensifying the offensive against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram. Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, broke the news via his official X handle, highlighting recent developments in the North-East Theatre of Operations.

On January 1, as part of Operation Hadin Kai, the NAF targeted critical ISWAP positions in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle. Known for its treacherous terrain and strategic importance to insurgents, the area has long served as a bastion for ISWAP operatives. Intelligence sources confirmed to Makama that the airstrikes dismantled key ISWAP installations, neutralized several terrorists, and disrupted their operational capabilities.

Simultaneously, NAF conducted another high-impact operation in the Mandara Mountain range, focusing on a Boko Haram faction loyal to notorious commander Ali Ngulde. The operation in the Gwoza axis aimed to dismantle this group’s network, further crippling their ability to launch coordinated attacks.

Adding to the intensity, ISWAP insurgents launched a surprise assault on Nigerian troops stationed in Damboa in the early hours of January 4. The attack, which began around 3 a.m., led to a fierce two-hour confrontation. Demonstrating remarkable resilience and tactical superiority, the troops successfully repelled the insurgents, forcing them into retreat. While the extent of casualties remains uncertain, the response underscores the steadfast commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to maintaining territorial integrity and civilian safety.

These synchronized operations reflect the unwavering resolve of Operation Hadin Kai in combating insurgency and restoring peace to Borno State and the wider North-East region. Further assessments are underway to evaluate the long-term impact of these strikes and ground engagements, as the Nigerian military continues its relentless pursuit of a decisive victory against terrorism.
