In a decisive and emotionally charged response to the brutal killing of seven people during a burial ceremony in Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced a N10 million bounty for anyone with credible information leading to the arrest of the gunmen responsible for the heinous act.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday in the Ihiala area, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Among the deceased were five security operatives and two civilians who fell victim to the merciless attack. According to reports, the perpetrators stormed the venue where family members had gathered to prepare for a burial ceremony scheduled for January 2. Without warning, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately, unleashing terror and chaos.
As they fled the scene, the attackers continued their rampage, targeting security personnel stationed near the local government headquarters. This added a layer of insecurity and fear to an already devastated community.
Governor Soludo, in a heartfelt statement, condemned the act in the strongest terms, describing it as not just an attack on innocent lives but a desecration of communal peace and humanity. “This is pure evil, and it will not go unpunished,” he said. The Anambra State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam, has swung into action. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, confirmed that a high-priority manhunt has been launched to track down the killers.
