President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Nigeria’s energy sector as he celebrated the restart of the Warri Refinery. In a statement shared on his official X handle, Tinubu described the development as a source of “joy and gladness” for himself and Nigerians, adding that it reinforces the hope and confidence in the brighter future his administration promised.

“This development is a remarkable way to end the year, following the feat recorded earlier with the old Port Harcourt Refinery,” the President remarked, highlighting his administration’s proactive steps to restore Nigeria’s refining capacity.
Tinubu commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for heeding his directive to restore the nation’s four refineries, describing the ongoing transformation as a milestone in reclaiming Nigeria’s position as a leader in crude oil refining on the continent.
“I congratulate Mele Kyari and his team at NNPCL for their hard work in restoring our national pride. With the Warri Refinery now operating at 60% capacity, our comprehensive plan for energy efficiency and security is well on track,” Tinubu said.
The President emphasized the importance of completing repairs on the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port Harcourt Refinery, urging the NNPCL to fast-track the restoration process. He underscored that these efforts are vital to Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a global energy provider and ensuring sustainable energy security for its citizens.
The Warri Refinery’s restart marks a significant milestone in Tinubu’s broader strategy to boost Nigeria’s local refining capacity, reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, and foster economic growth. With the refinery now operational, Nigerians can expect improved energy access, job creation, and a step closer to achieving self-sufficiency in the energy sector.
As the administration pushes forward with its energy reform agenda, Tinubu’s leadership signals a renewed focus on revitalizing critical infrastructure, strengthening investor confidence, and positioning Nigeria as a dominant force in the global energy landscape.
