In a heartbreaking incident, the Adamawa State Police Command announced the arrest of a 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, on charges of culpable homicide. The suspect, apprehended on November 8, 2024, allegedly killed his three-day-old baby boy, a crime that has shocked the community of Kwacham Ward in Mubi North Local Government Area.

According to the police report, Yaro was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, who had given birth to the baby just three days before. She reported that Yaro took the infant’s life after she had repeatedly urged him to assume responsibility for their child.
During police interrogations, Yaro confessed to the crime and led investigators to the location where he had buried the baby’s remains, which were subsequently exhumed for further examination. In a chilling account, Yaro revealed that he had visited Safiya’s home under the cover of night, sending her on an errand to fetch water. Left alone with the newborn, he took the opportunity to carry out his grim intentions. Around 9:00 p.m., he carried the baby’s lifeless body to a remote area known as Girpata in Mubi, where he buried it.
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, expressed profound concern over the incident, calling it a “truly tragic and disturbing crime.” Dankombo emphasized the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and disclosed that the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation and diligent prosecution.
The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicions of criminal activities in their communities, stressing that such a heinous act will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
This tragic case highlights the critical need for mental health and social support services, especially for young parents facing challenges. The police command reassured the community that it will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served, and that such atrocities are prevented in the future.
