Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps Hosts Ceremonial Farewell, Celebrates Major Generals’ Legacy of Service

In a deeply moving and symbolic event on Friday, October 25, 2024, the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC) gathered to honor the distinguished careers of five retiring Major Generals at the Abalti Barracks in Surulere, Lagos. The ceremonial pull-out, a long-standing tradition symbolizing the conclusion of an officer’s military journey, brought together family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate the legacy of these dedicated officers.

The event was a blend of formal military honors and personal reflections, marked by the dignified procession of the retiring officers, who represented decades of unwavering commitment to the nation. Major General Omotomilola Akintade, who served as the Reviewing Officer, spoke on behalf of his fellow retirees, sharing insights into their remarkable journeys. He highlighted the courage, resilience, and adaptability that became second nature to them through years of service amid ever-evolving security challenges.

Maj Gen Akintade reflected on the high standards set during their rigorous training at the Nigerian Defence Academy and the unforeseen trials they encountered in their careers. “Each mission and posting taught us the meaning of sacrifice and tested our limits,” he said, recalling the demands of leadership in times of conflict and peace. He called on the younger officers to uphold the Ordnance Corps’ values—loyalty, professionalism, and integrity—urging them to steer clear of actions that could tarnish the esteemed reputation of the Corps and the Nigerian Army.

Expressing profound gratitude, Maj Gen Akintade acknowledged the Nigerian Army for offering him and his colleagues a platform to serve, both domestically and internationally. He extended special thanks to the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and past leadership for their unwavering dedication to the Ordnance Corps. Under their stewardship, the Corps has evolved into a formidable support structure for the Army, adeptly providing logistical and material assistance during operations.

The ceremony concluded with a resonant message to the next generation of officers: a reminder that the legacy of those who came before them lies not only in the medals earned but in the values upheld and the impact made in the service of Nigeria.
