In a bid to strengthen his administration’s efficiency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved sweeping changes across key ministries and ministerial portfolios. The announcement, made by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, details eight transformative actions designed to optimize government operations and deliver on promises made to Nigerians.
One of the major reforms is the renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development, which will now oversee all regional development commissions, including those for the Niger Delta, South East, North East, and North West. This restructuring aims to unify and enhance regional development efforts across the country.
Other significant changes include the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development, with its responsibilities transferred to the National Sports Commission. This move is aimed at fostering a robust sports economy. Additionally, the Federal Ministries of Tourism and Arts and Culture have merged into the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, reflecting the administration’s focus on harnessing Nigeria’s cultural assets.
President Tinubu also reassigned ten ministers to new portfolios, discharged five ministers from their positions, and nominated seven new ministers for Senate confirmation. Notable appointments include Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission and Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation.
The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their contributions, while urging the new and reassigned appointees to view their positions as a call to serve. He emphasized the government’s determination to steer Nigeria towards irreversible growth, requiring the highest level of commitment from his team.
