Rev. Habila M. Istifanus, President of the Justice Peace and Reconciliation Movement (JPRM), stands as a beacon of resilience, integrity, and selfless service. A seasoned politician, humanitarian, and community leader, he has dedicated his life to uplifting the marginalized and fostering unity through his NGO in Ganye Chiefdom. Despite facing tremendous political and personal betrayals, Rev. Istifanus remains steadfast in his mission, a testament to his unwavering belief in justice and the common good.
As a politician, Rev. Istifanus has a distinguished career that extends beyond personal ambition. His political journey includes contesting for the Nigerian Senate under the National Transformation Party (NTP) and later for a seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was once the running mate of the current National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu under Peoples Democratic party PDP, highlighting his standing among Nigeria’s political elite. Yet, despite his efforts, the recognition and support from those he helped remain largely absent.
Rev. Istifanus’ influence is deeply felt in Ganye Chiefdom and beyond. Through his NGO, JPRM, he has brought about substantial change, focusing on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and social development. The NGO has spearheaded several developmental projects aimed at improving the lives of the people in the community, from educational initiatives to infrastructural projects, all driven by Rev. Istifanus’ vision for a just and prosperous society.
Many politicians in Adamawa South senatorial zone and beyond owe a debt of gratitude to Rev. Istifanus. His strategic counsel, political acumen, and financial contributions played a pivotal role in their rise to power, including the current senator representing the zone and other key office holders. However, in a tragic twist of political irony, these same individuals have turned their backs on him, failing to recognize the immense contributions he made to their success. Rather than gratitude, they have responded with betrayal, often undermining his work and reputation.
This pervasive betrayal, driven by fear that Rev. Istifanus’ popularity might eclipse their own, has not deterred him. In fact, despite attempts to sabotage his efforts and destroy his political lifeline, Rev. Istifanus remains resilient. His strength comes from an unshakable faith in the power of justice and his deep connection to the people he serves. He continues his work with JPRM, undeterred by the political machinations around him, maintaining a focus on peace, reconciliation, and community development.
A figure of rare selflessness, Rev. Istifanus has never sought personal gain from his political endeavors. He has used his personal resources to support causes and individuals he believes in, including playing a crucial role in ensuring the re-election of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Despite his unflinching loyalty and contributions, he has yet to be adequately acknowledged for his efforts by the very administration he helped secure.
Yet, Rev. Istifanus remains undeterred. His character is defined not by the recognition of others but by his internal compass of justice and peace. He continues to push forward, never allowing the forces of hatred, betrayal, or political schemes to sway him from his path. His resilience in the face of adversity has earned him the respect of his people, who see in him a leader who truly cares, even when the political class does not.
