In a heartwarming act of commitment to education and community development, the former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has once again demonstrated his dedication to uplifting institutions across Nigeria. Taking to his official X handle, Obi announced his return to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State, to fulfill a promise made during a previous visit three months ago.
On his initial visit, Obi had generously donated ₦10 million to the college, aimed at bolstering their learning infrastructure. At the time, both the Proprietor and the Rector had expressed their urgent need for a 32-seater coaster bus to facilitate students’ clinical experience visits—an essential requirement for the college’s accreditation process.
In a discussion with the institution’s Proprietor, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Adaji, it was revealed that while a brand-new bus would cost over ₦100 million, a fairly used one within the range of ₦20 million to ₦30 million would be more feasible. Staying true to his word, Peter Obi returned to the college yesterday to present a high-quality, fairly used bus that met the institution’s needs, allowing students to pursue their clinical assignments without logistical challenges.
Moreover, Obi took the opportunity to contribute an additional ₦5 million to cover the bus’s registration, insurance, and other essential expenses for the next year. His thoughtful gesture ensures the students’ transportation needs are not only met but sustained for the foreseeable future.
In his message of appreciation, Obi extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Proprietor, Management, and staff of Grimard College for their warm reception and tireless dedication to the noble cause of education and healthcare. He also reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to supporting the institution, stating, “I will continue to assist in my modest way as we work together towards building a new Nigeria that is possible.”
