Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, has taken to her official X (formerly Twitter) handle to announce a critical decision following a high-level meeting with prominent figures of the party.
In her post, Usman revealed that she met with His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, His Excellency Governor Alex Otti, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Secretary of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, to deliberate on the court judgment delivered earlier that day.
“The case actually preceded the formation of the Caretaker Committee. However, after being briefed, the Caretaker Committee decided to join the case,” Usman clarified, underscoring the committee’s commitment to being fully engaged in the matter despite it predating their tenure.
The senator further emphasized the importance of appealing the judgment, stating, “We have resolved to appeal the judgment accordingly.” This decisive step aims to uphold the Labour Party’s integrity and ensure that justice prevails.
In a bid to maintain party unity and avoid unnecessary tensions, Usman called on all party members and supporters to remain calm and patient during this period. “I, therefore, call on all party members to remain calm and maintain peace as we continue our reconciliation efforts,” she urged.
Senator Nenadi Usman’s message reflects the Labour Party’s determination to navigate the legal complexities with tact and resolve, while also fostering internal peace and solidarity. The appeal promises to be a significant moment in the party’s continued struggle for justice and fair representation within the Nigerian political landscape.
The leadership remains steadfast in its commitment to pursuing every legal avenue to challenge the judgment, signalling that this is not the end but rather a continuation of their fight for the party’s principles.
