In a shocking incident that has gripped Yola South Local Government Area, the Adamawa State Police Command has arrested and charged a couple for the egregious abuse of two minors. The accused, 28-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her husband, Abubakar Yuguda, are now facing charges of criminal conspiracy and cruelty to persons in the Chief Magistrates Court 2, Jimeta.
The arrest followed a tip-off from concerned neighbors in Sanda, Makama B Ward, who reported the continuous physical abuse of the children under the couple’s care. The victims, Hafsat Abubakar, a 2-year-old girl, and Usman Abubakar, a 4-year-old boy, were reportedly subjected to relentless maltreatment at the hands of their stepmother, Fatima, until the police intervened and rescued them.
Both suspects have since confessed to their roles in the abuse and were promptly charged to court, where they are expected to face the full wrath of the law.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, PSC (+), expressed his unwavering commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society, particularly children, from all forms of abuse. He emphasized that the police will continue to act swiftly against any reports of child abuse and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
CP Dankombo also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any signs of abuse to the authorities, stressing the importance of community involvement in the fight against domestic violence and cruelty.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing challenges in protecting children from abuse, but the swift actions of the Adamawa State Police Command offer hope that justice will be served.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),
