Rivers Chairperson Orders Removal of Wike’s Name from Council Building, Renames it Obi Wali House

In a bold move that has ignited political discourse, the newly elected Chairperson of the Rivers State Council, Mr. Ihunwo, has ordered the removal of former Governor Nyesom Wike’s name from a prominent administrative building. The announcement, made via Premium Times’ official X handle, has sent shockwaves through the local political landscape.

During his visit to the council secretariat on Monday, Mr. Ihunwo, who secured victory in Saturday’s local government elections, made it clear that the administrative block, previously named after Mr. Wike, would now bear the name “Obi Wali House.” The council chairperson emphasized his authority as he pointed to the top of the building where the inscription “Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike ADMIN BLOCK” was prominently displayed.

“Wike does not allow the people to rest,” Mr. Ihunwo declared, speaking with firm resolve. “As the chairperson of this council, I have decided to rename this structure Obi Wali House,” he announced to the applause and cheers of the crowd gathered around him.

This move comes on the heels of a controversial election where the police, citing a court order, barred officers from providing security for the electoral process. Despite these challenges, Mr. Ihunwo emerged victorious and wasted no time in making his first major decision as council chairperson.

Mr. Ihunwo further stated that the changes would be implemented immediately, “by tomorrow morning,” and issued a daring challenge: “I dare anyone to contest this decision.”

The renaming of the administrative block from Wike to Obi Wali, a revered political figure in Rivers State, is seen by many as a symbolic shift in power dynamics. The decision has stirred mixed reactions, with some praising Ihunwo’s bold leadership, while others view it as a calculated move against Wike, now a federal minister.

As the political drama unfolds, all eyes remain on Rivers State, awaiting further developments and potential reactions from the Wike camp.
