President Tinubu Condemns Violence in Rivers State, Orders Immediate Security Reinforcement at Local Government Offices

In a decisive response to the escalating unrest in Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the violence that has marred the recent local government council elections. Through an official statement released on the X handle of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Center, the president expressed deep concern over reports of arson, explosions, and other destructive acts in the state, calling for immediate action to restore order.

The president specifically called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders, and their supporters to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law. His message stressed the importance of maintaining peace during this tense post-election period, urging all political actors to de-escalate the situation and ensure their supporters refrain from violence.

“Government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from acts of vandalism. These institutions represent the hard work and contributions of the people, and no individual or group should be allowed to destroy them,” President Tinubu stated, reiterating that the integrity of public property is paramount.

The president’s directive to the Nigerian Police was swift and clear—ensure maximum security for all local government offices in Rivers State. He emphasized that democratic governance, which Nigeria has upheld for 25 consecutive years, cannot tolerate self-help or any form of unlawful behavior. President Tinubu reinforced the role of the judiciary as the appropriate avenue for resolving political disputes, including those related to the recent elections.

“Let us remember that democracy is strengthened through the courts, where grievances are resolved fairly and peacefully. There is no room for violence in our democratic process,” he affirmed.

This strong condemnation of the violence, coupled with the president’s firm directive to security agencies, underscores the federal government’s commitment to preserving law and order. The swift actions of President Tinubu send a powerful message to those intent on destabilizing the state, signaling that peace, justice, and the rule of law will prevail.
