The former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Wazirin Adamawa, has taken to his official X handle to express his views on the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State. In a reflective and powerful message, Atiku heralded the outcome as a monumental victory for democracy, signaling an end to the era of political intimidation and judicial manipulation in the state.

“With the conclusion of the local government elections in Rivers State, the shadows of political intimidation and judicial chicanery have dissipated, paving the way for the noble pursuit of governance to commence,” Atiku declared, capturing the mood of a state that had, for months, been on edge.
From the vibrant city of Port Harcourt to the peaceful shores of Onne, Atiku lauded the people of Rivers for speaking in unison, their voices an unbreakable testament to the power of democracy. He emphasized that no force could suppress the will of the people, and the results had unequivocally affirmed the resolve of Rivers’ citizens to reject oppression and stand firmly against political manipulation.
“Rivers people are astute, resolute, and have unequivocally demonstrated their disdain for political oppression, harassment, and the machinations of self-serving godfathers. Their choices were loud and clear,” Atiku remarked, underscoring the people’s resilience.
In his message, the former vice president extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected local government leaders. He urged them to embrace the responsibilities of their offices with humility and a commitment to the welfare of the people. He implored them to eschew tyranny and any misguided ambitions, reminding them that their mandate is to serve, not rule.
“I call on the newly elected leaders to wear the welfare of the people as their foremost badge of honour. Let their political journey be free of tyranny and delusional ambition, as they strive to build a Rivers State that truly represents its people’s aspirations,” Atiku urged.
He also commended the resilient spirit of the people of Rivers, praising them for ensuring the elections were conducted peacefully, despite numerous challenges. Atiku acknowledged their courage, noting that their determination was a bulwark against the forces of disruption.
Furthermore, Atiku heaped praise on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his steadfast leadership throughout the electoral process. According to him, Governor Fubara’s unwavering commitment to the people’s interests and his firm stance on ensuring the sanctity of the election amidst provocations deserves commendation.
“In the grand tapestry of this election, it is ultimately the people who emerge victorious,” Atiku concluded. “Their sacred right to choose their leaders has been firmly upheld within the framework of our democratic process.”
With this election, Atiku believes that a new chapter of governance, built on the foundation of transparency and accountability, has begun in Rivers State, marking a significant triumph for democracy and the people’s will.
