A Call to Action: Lawmakers Must Follow the Lead or Risk Irrelevance in 2027

Philip Brandford Adams

As the landscape of Nigerian politics continues to evolve, it is clear that silence is no longer an option for lawmakers. While some representatives remain conspicuously quiet, a handful have taken decisive action, proving that they are true stewards of their people’s mandate. One such leader is the honorable representative of Fufore/Song Federal Constituency, whose proactive approach to governance and empowerment is setting the standard for his colleagues.

In his first year of service, this federal lawmaker has taken strides to make a tangible difference in the lives of his constituents. Through his Mega Empowerment Program, thousands of lives have been touched. From sponsoring bills for the establishment of the Federal College of Health Technology in Song and the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Fufore to facilitating the ₦20 billion rehabilitation of the Jabbi Lamba – Malabu – Belel Road, his commitment is evident.

But his efforts don’t stop there. Recognizing the critical role education plays in the development of any society, the representative has constructed classrooms across schools and awarded scholarships to over 2,000 students. Furthermore, a free eye surgery initiative has benefited another 2,000 individuals, while 1,800 farmers have received essential inputs like water pumps and fertilizers. These are life-changing projects that directly impact the lives of his people.

His dedication to youth and women empowerment is equally commendable. With over 136 youths securing appointments at the Federal Level and 250 women trained in soap making, shoe making, and handbag crafting, he is laying the foundation for sustainable growth and economic independence in his constituency. This is governance that leaves no one behind.

At a recent event, the lawmaker went further, distributing over 500 motorcycles, 25 cars, 36 Keke Napeps, 47 Carry-Go machines, 340 water pumps, and 500 sewing machines to beneficiaries. Each woman who received a sewing machine was also empowered with ₦500,000 to kickstart her business. Additionally, over 2,000 bags of fertilizer, 500 cartons of spaghetti, 2,000 liters of oil, and 2,000 bags of maize and rice were distributed to ensure food security for families in need.

These are not empty gestures; they are investments in the future of his constituency. His Conditional Cash Transfer Program, which has already benefited over 2,000 people, is yet another testament to his hands-on approach to improving the lives of his people.

And yet, while this representative continues to set an example of what true public service looks like, others remain silent. This silence cannot and should not be tolerated any longer. As the 2027 elections approach, it is crucial for constituents to demand the same level of commitment from all their representatives. It is time to challenge the status quo.

To the silent lawmakers, the message is clear: Step up, or step aside. If you wish to retain your positions or vie for any political office in 2027, you must start delivering now. Empty promises and political grandstanding will no longer cut it. The people of Fufore/Song, Adamawa State, and indeed all of Nigeria, deserve leaders who act, not those who vanish until election season.

To the constituents, it is your right to hold your representatives accountable. Celebrate those who work tirelessly for your benefit, and challenge those who remain on the sidelines. Governance is not about rhetoric; it is about action, impact, and change.

In conclusion, the future belongs to leaders who serve with purpose and passion. As demonstrated by the honorable representative of Fufore/Song, true leadership means not just listening to the needs of your people but acting upon them. The time for silence is over. It is time for every lawmaker to follow this shining example, or risk irrelevance in 2027.
