Adamawa Police Command Foils Suicide Attempt, Arrests Suspect

Swift Police Response Saves Life in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area

The Adamawa State Police Command has successfully thwarted a suicide attempt and arrested Abdullahi Muhammed, a 30-year-old man from Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State. The incident occurred on the 29th of September, 2024, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.



According to reports, Abdullahi Muhammed climbed a 33kV high-tension pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway, threatening to end his life. The situation drew immediate concern from passersby, who promptly alerted the authorities.

Upon receiving the distress report, the Commissioner of Police swiftly deployed a team of officers from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Police Headquarters to the scene. Thanks to their timely intervention, the suspect was rescued unharmed and taken into protective custody.

The suspect is currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court for attempting to commit suicide, an offense under Nigerian law.

The Adamawa State Police Command, through its spokesperson, reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, including preventing acts of self-harm. The Command also encourages citizens to seek help for mental health challenges, stressing the importance of speaking out and seeking support before resorting to drastic measures.

The Command further assured the public that it remains vigilant and fully dedicated to the protection of all residents in Adamawa State, emphasizing that no effort will be spared in maintaining peace, order, and the overall well-being of the people.
