EXTORTION: Vigilante Impersonator Arrested for Extorting Public,
In a swift operation, the Adamawa State Police Command has taken to it’s official X handle and announced via a riveting press release that the command has apprehended a 27-year-old suspect, Shafiu Abdulkadir, for impersonating a police officer and extorting tricycle (Keke) riders in Yola. The suspect, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa, Yola North Local Government Area, was nabbed on the 26th of September 2024 while unlawfully demanding money from tricyclists along the Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and around Jimeta Modern Market.

The arrest came after credible intelligence was received about a group of vigilantes who had been terrorizing and extorting tricycle riders in the area. Abdulkadir was caught wearing a police camouflage trouser, a black shirt with the inscription “Special Force,” and boots, further deceiving the public into believing he was a legitimate law enforcement officer.
The Commissioner of Police, through his spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, praised the efforts of the officers involved in the operation. He emphasized that the suspect would be prosecuted after a thorough investigation is completed.
In his statement, the Commissioner urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, reassuring the public that the Command is steadfast in its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
The Adamawa State Police Command continues to demonstrate its zero tolerance for criminal activities, and this arrest serves as a strong warning to others engaging in unlawful activities.
